Dr. Díaz Medical Office El Paso, Texas

The Dr. Díaz Medical Office is located in a 26,900 square feet lot near the intersection of Gateway East and Lomaland. The building is a 5,000 square feet concrete and steel structure. The program for this project consists in general terms of administrative areas, 3 exam rooms, 1 x-ray room, cast room and a large therapy room. The exterior walls are 5” concrete panels with an exposed stained finish. The interior partitions will be constructed out of metal studs and gypsum board with texture and paint finish. Some ofthe spaces such as the therapy room have an exposed ceiling to take advantage of the high structure of the building and to provide an ample feeling to the patients using this room. This strategy is used throughout most of the building.Other areas like the exam rooms are designed for day to day operation being in a private waiting area with more standardized features such as wood cabinetry. One of the most important characteristics of this building is daylighting. In the center portion ofthe building – the high portion of it – there is a collective of 2’x2’ windows to introduce natural light into the building in order to reduce the usage of artificial lighting.Keeping with the energy and resource savings, the landscaped areas in the exteriors are to have plant material from the region that requires minimum water usage and maintenance to conserve as much of this resource as possible.Other characteristics of this project are: handicapped accessibility throughout the building and its exteriors, exposed finishes inside and outside and the usage of metal shading structures to protect the building from the intense sun light.
